Sorry! I know Catholics ask the saints to intercede for them. I just didn't word it well. I should've said that I asked Catherine to pray for me.

Thank you for pointing that out!

FYI Catholics do not pray to Saints, per se! Catholic doctrine holds at death that there are 3 options for the soul at its Particular Judgment:
1. Heaven, if having lived an extra-ordinary life of holiness(e.g. saints/martyrs) then your soul goes to heaven (see the book of The Apocalypse of St. John 6: 9-10 "And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held. 10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying: How long, O Lord (holy and true) dost thou not judge and revenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?"
2. Purgatory - the place or condition in which the souls of the just are purified after death and before they can enter heaven.
3. Hell- self explanatory!

So, until the Final Judgment when our bodies are resurrected and reunited with our souls (this is why we do not cremate our bodies but bury them!) we ask the holy souls in heaven to INTERCEDE with prayers to God the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost for mercy, grace and blessings! Surely, we can all use all the holy prayers we can get!

Just thought I'd clarify that!

I loved the elephant! I don't know how many pictures I took! The thing was just adorable. Catherine has been one of my favorites since I discovered her in college.

Thank you for posting these great pictures. I loved that church and the cute little elephant, and I love Catherine. (I think she's praying for you without being asked :-) good Catholic girl that I am--and that she'd be proud of your prophetic ministry).

No the veneration did not bother me. But I thought all of Catherine was entombed there. I had no idea they dismembered her! Now that's icky.

I loved Sopha Minerva too. I don't know how long my husband and I were in there looking and taking pictures. We loved all the skulls and crossbones! We're a bit macabre and think Halloween is a way of life and not one day of the year. :) It was a great church.

Did the veneration of her body bother you? I thought, "She was a godly, powerful woman with great significance in the history of the Church. Can't we remember that without displaying her body?" I felt that way even more after seeing her poor head and finger in Siena--creepy, to these Protestant eyes.

I LOVED Sopra Minerva. My husband had to come and drag me out of there because all of our companions were already outside, and waiting for me....
