Thank you for this post. The Art Institute is one of my favorite places on earth, and this painting of Judith is one of my favorite paintings there. She is beautiful, formidable, feminine, smart, sensual and strong. She was God’s woman of the hour, an excellent choice for a model of your sovereign self.

I LOVE this painting! Thank you for the story and your boldness. What I love about nudes from this time period is that the women have a bit of belly, some sizeable glutes–they look like real women. And the look on her face, still flushed with the heat of battle: “You want some of this?” Wow.
